Hello, Kort McCulley here, and I want to talk to you a little about plan design. And how and why that is important for organizations. After we’ve answered the question of what’s your vision for your organization, it drives us into the following conversation how do we build a design that facilitates that vision?
What employees are we focused on? Incenting, attracting. Who are we trying to make sure that this plan serves? And so after we’ve answered the, what, what’s your vision? We really should have a deep-dive conversation about the design. There are so many options out there, and it comes down to the group of people we’re trying to track, retain, and ensure that that plan is serving.
You can get lost in deciding on brands and products, and different types of solutions are out there, from the 401k to the defined benefit to samples to SEPs, you name it. All the options exist. It is backed down to What is the design? Who is this for? And sometimes people will say, what do you need to census for?
It’s like, well, that’s the most important thing. You need to understand who the body is of this group that we are building this for. How can we ensure this plant is ready to serve them? So when we’re creating an outline for an organization to make sure that they have a healthy program, it is rooted in that conversation and the plan design. That tells us who it is we’re building this for and making sure that we’ve solved that long before we get into the conversation around products and solutions.
The execution of investments and all the other service offerings comes with it. So what is the plan? Design is really about who this is for. And have we answered that question.
